How to Get Your North Carolina Real Estate License

Becoming a real estate broker in North Carolina starts with education. Before you can take the North Carolina real estate license examination, you must complete the required minimum 75-hour Broker Prelicensing Course through an approved education provider.

1. Complete Prelicensing Education

Complete the minimum 75-hour North Carolina Broker Prelicensing Course through a North Carolina Real Estate Commission-approved education provider.

2. Apply for Your License

Submit your license application to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission and complete the required background check process.

 

3. Pass the License Examination

After receiving examination eligibility, take and pass the North Carolina real estate license examination.

What Happens After You Pass?

In North Carolina, newly licensed brokers receive their license on Provisional Broker status. To remove the provisional status and maintain an active license, brokers must complete 90 hours of Postlicensing education within the time required by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.

What is the difference between live online and self-paced Prelicensing?

Live online Prelicensing provides scheduled, instructor-led classes where students can ask questions and learn with an instructor in real time. Self-paced Prelicensing allows students to work through the course on their own schedule while still receiving instructor support as needed. Trav Talks self-paced students can also drop into live online classes for additional instruction.
