The 2026–2027 Broker-in-Charge Update (BICUP) is the North Carolina Real Estate Commission’s annual 4-hour Update course for Brokers-in-Charge and brokers with BIC-Eligible status. Completion of BICUP satisfies the annual Update requirement and is required to maintain BIC-Eligible status.
This year’s course addresses current issues affecting North Carolina real estate practice, including changes in the appraisal process, frequently asked brokerage questions, fake-seller fraud, fair housing, recent law and Commission rule changes, and licensing and education updates. It also includes material specifically addressing the responsibilities of Brokers-in-Charge.
The BIC-specific portion examines practical supervisory issues facing today’s brokerage offices, including the use of artificial intelligence, protection of confidential client information, appropriate office policies and procedures, review of AI-generated content, advertising and fair housing compliance, and the BIC’s responsibility for training and supervising affiliated brokers and staff.
Like the General Update, BICUP is newly developed by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission each license year to address current law and rule changes, areas of disciplinary concern, and evolving brokerage practices.
